Reasons for my Poster
The poster was made for rap artist Lil’ Wayne because he is one of the most influential and unique hip-hop artists of the modern era. Lil Wayne’s style of rapping is a unique blend of hip-hop and rock that in turn, creates a style of its own. With this particular poster, David Carson’s grunge style showed the outrageous characteristics that the style, and Lil Wayne’s music share and exemplify. I chose the grunge style to portray the style of Lil’ Wayne’s music, often wild and out of control, I felt the grunge style was the best to go along with his style of music.
I had a general interest in the grunge style and it always appealed to me and particularly, with this poster, I thought it was the best style to emulate the hip-hop genre. Specifically, with the poster given, I came up with the bleeding boom box to represent some of the lyrics Lil Wayne says. Often times, Lil Wayne says he is “killin the track”, so therefore, I illustrated a boom box bleeding to death because it is playing his music. I learned how to group certain elements associated with the drawing, including using the pathfinder tools, such as unite tool to bring shapes together. I also changed the opacity for some of the starts that were drawn in because I felt like they took too much attention from the actual piece itself.
