Museum Visit #3- Ordover Gallery

Title: Ordover Gallery

Date: Saturday October 17, 2009

Nature of Event: Photo (Landscape)

My visit of the Ordover Gallery in Solana Beach was very entertaining. Pertaining to the various amounts of photos on display, I was enthralled with Frank Lanting and Art Wolfe's work. They captured a lot of nature-based photos, and I was particularly impressed with that because of the degree of difficulty that nature-based photos bring with them. I especially liked the different angles they both used when producing these epic photos because it encapsualated all of the visual elements they wanted to encompass in the process of presenting their work to the audience. I appreciate the fact that they traveled all around the world to capture such images for processing. Colors and clarity are important when it comes to the overall presentation of a project, and it is very evident when seen in the photos you can view in this gallery.

Museum Visit #2-MOPA Beloved Daughters

Title: Beloved Daughter's Exhibition

Date: Saturday, October 3rd 2009

Nature of Event: Photographs depicting the treatment of women in India.

The Beloved Daughters Exhibition at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa was presented by Fazai Sheikh, represented the women from the country of India. The pictures almost seemed bleek, a sort of calmness embeded mixed with sadness and agony due to the often black and white tones showing plain facial expressions, meaning no smiling of any sort. The exhibition itself was set up in a way, that clearly identified the chronological order of people taken by Fazai, due to age group. There was also writing associated with the stories of the women the photographer took. A large majority of the photos depicted women in a futile state of mind, almost helpless to move out of the situation they are in, and the juxtaposition of the various elements seen in the pictures, with regards to the treatment of women in India, was fairly represented by the photos in this exhibition. Tones used in different contexts can evoke a different emotions that an audience can recieve by viewing an artist's work. This exhibit was extraordinary in that regard, and in doing so, has produced a powerful denotative meaning.

Museum Visit #1-Ansel Adams MOPA

Title: Ansel Adams Art Exhibit

Date: Saturday, October 4th 2009

Nature Of Event: Photography

Ansel Adams is one of my favorite landscape photographers and his exhibition at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park was extraordinary. His use of black and white images depicting monumental still images gave the image more contrast, which in turn, gave way to more dramatic view. More so, if the picture itself was in color. His use of varying angles showed how he payed attention to how certain objects in each photo also represented a visual element seen in other types of paintings. It is unique in the sense that Adams has been able to capture these elements through landscape photography. His photos at the exhibition were very dramatic, some even gave way to the use of motion. A lot of them were very famous national landmarks, such as Half-Dome in Yosemite National Park in Central California to the San Francisco Bay, before the bridge itself was even created. If there was anything I can take away from the event, it would have to be in terms of how using an array of varying angles can affect composition within a piece itself.

2nd Double Meaning -"Iron Man"

It is called Iron Man because the barbells that the figure is made out of are also referred to as "iron" such as in the common quote "pumping iron", which would indicate that a person has been, or will be weightlifting.

double Meaning-Background

A double meaning is defined as "(A) play on words, bringing sytactic quality of expression to the words themselves, supported ambiguously by illustration." The image of the two objects coming together resembles the "double" part in the idea of "double header". While the idea of those objects resembling head protective gear preferrably for football players is an example of the "header" part because they appear to be head-butting each other as seen in soccer which is also known as a "header". Therefore, putting these connotative meanings together equals the phrase meaning two games or sporting events shown in one night, a "double header".

The Evolution of my Personal Logo

There were a numerous amount of elements that I considered while producing my personal logo. I wanted to honor my heritage while also incorporating my number that I have worn during all of my sporting events that I participated in, which is 21. Also, I wanted combine my first and last name in coarrdance with how the logo would be viewed overall, with out giving out my full name for privacy purposes. Simple colors blend easily beacuse of their simplicity, so I wanted to use black and white, which also gave way to high contrast and easy visibility. The placement of the top designs to the bottom chronicles the successions of multiple designs that gave way to production of the final logo.

Reasons for my Poster

The poster was made for rap artist Lil’ Wayne because he is one of the most influential and unique hip-hop artists of the modern era. Lil Wayne’s style of rapping is a unique blend of hip-hop and rock that in turn, creates a style of its own. With this particular poster, David Carson’s grunge style showed the outrageous characteristics that the style, and Lil Wayne’s music share and exemplify. I chose the grunge style to portray the style of Lil’ Wayne’s music, often wild and out of control, I felt the grunge style was the best to go along with his style of music.

I had a general interest in the grunge style and it always appealed to me and particularly, with this poster, I thought it was the best style to emulate the hip-hop genre. Specifically, with the poster given, I came up with the bleeding boom box to represent some of the lyrics Lil Wayne says. Often times, Lil Wayne says he is “killin the track”, so therefore, I illustrated a boom box bleeding to death because it is playing his music. I learned how to group certain elements associated with the drawing, including using the pathfinder tools, such as unite tool to bring shapes together. I also changed the opacity for some of the starts that were drawn in because I felt like they took too much attention from the actual piece itself.

Image Prevalence

Image Prevalence by Joemell Dalit VPA-380

1. Why do you think the reproduction of image is so prevalent in the world today?

The reproduction of certain images provides a sense of nostalgia and a way for the audience to have their opinion on a replicated piece of art. In all cases, the given audience can connect with the duplicated image with their own point of view. Giving way to new ideas, judgments, and attitudes that previous generations have failed to conjure up.

2. What do you think this prevalence bodes for the future of graphic design and your place in it?

This type of prevalence can create new styles that blend with the previous design element used in prior methods. It is not only a remake of things to come, but a definite improvement over the traditional methods that were otherwise, presumed to be ineffective. By allowing the reproduction of certain images being used in graphic design, an artist can blend the past with the present, only to create better dynamics for the future.

3. Why do you think the John McCain drive for the presidency failed to use the Internet (or failed to use it effectively) as a means of communication with voters?

With McCain’s preferred voter group, he probably assumed that a large majority of them rarely frequented the Internet as a medium for communication. Therefore, he invested more time with the traditional methods of campaigning, by means of billboards, newspapers, commercials, and political propaganda posters etc. Where as Obama, realized the vast potential of using the Internet as a means of communication, especially with the young voter age group. Thus, making him seem as the new and progressive form of presidency, using internet social networks such as Facebook and Myspace as a means to get his political messages across.
